In Part I: “There is a part 2 to this search, we’ve found out something more done by (and in) Litomerice to honor our hero, and much much more than what we could expect. For our out-of-the-blue find, watch out for a later post: Jose Rizal in Litomerice Part 2.”
Some more walking around to see more of the city led us to a fortification from which we could look down.
Below, we were greeted by a view of nearby houses with enchanting architecture; and farther, the rooftops of these dwellings,
even the tower (with its spires) of another beautiful structure – St. Stephen Cathedral; and far beyond a scenic view of fields and mountains (not anymore captured by the cam), with the clear blue skies up above..
On the left side were fortifications reminiscent of palaces and knights of old, and looking down below these, we could view the fortification parklands and gardens.
The ancient look adds to its charms, the heavy fortifications softened by the garden flowers below
One could be enthralled by the natural beauty around, much more with its peace and quiet which was so invigorating.
Above, the fortification from which we looked down, and beyond. Again, the cobble-stoned pathways were prominent – just like in Prague - though with a variation of design this time
It was time to have lunch, so we crossed the main square, but in there, we were attracted to the city map. On it, prominent spots of the city which could be tourist attractions were marked/numbered, and there was a legend on the side what these points were. An added feature was a gadget which when pressed, a programmed voice would give an explanation about the marked spot.
It was indeed a pleasant surprise to see this:
The Jose Rizal Park focused, a part of the whole map shown below
The Map of Litomerice, of which the above “Parkany Jose Rizala” is a part
We were so happy to have an added unexpected bonus to what we were looking for: a park named after our national hero – Parkany Jose Rizala! Mart pressed on the number of the park, but the voice tape was in Czech. Ahhh there was an English version, and so we listened to it, though not so clear. But it was enough to lighten our mood the more.
We realized from the map that the wonderful place on which we were walking around, a few minutes ago, appreciating the awesome quiet, peace and beauty of it was the Rizal Park (though we could also be wrong as there was no mark, it was only on the map
).
We had our day, and it was so memorable, as it evoked so much patriotic feeling for our one and only Philippines, bought dearly by brave heroes such as Jose Rizal. How exhilarating it was that he is honored and given a place in the beautiful and historical city of Litomerice, Czech Republic, in far-away Europe.
Thank you Litomerice, but most of all…Thank You Lord!
(Note: Today is the birthday of our national hero, and to him this post is dedicated.)
