It’s nearing end of the year, the time when most of transactions are renewed, like: payment of land or property taxes, permit of businesses, professional tax receipt (PTR) payments, just to mention some. It has then come to my mind to ask my techie son when my website hosting will be renewed. Aside from this month being November, and the second to the last for this year, I’ve also come across a site that has reminded me of this.

This site provides independent reviews of various web hosting service providers, so we can compare the features offered by each. An interesting service they provide to internet users is to give different reviews (customer, webmaster, etc.) to guide them in their purchase. The top 10 web hosting providers are also given. Not only that, all the providers they include in their listing offer best-priced web hosting services, not more than $10 per month. Also, all web hosting plans give one free domain name registration, and a 30-day money back guarantee.

As it’s my son who takes care of techie stuffs like web hosting for me, I’ll let him know of this site, we might benefit from its many services offered. From visiting the site, he can still know more, like the awarded providers: best budget hosting, best blog hosting, best email hosting, best forum hosting, among others.

A dear friend of mine has been sad as she has been intermittently absent in our meetings due to her eyes, she’s got blurred vision. That’s why when I came across a website for eyeglasses, I remembered her and got interested. Browsing through its various designs of beautiful, very low-priced eye-wear, I thought to myself, if I were Santa Claus (remember Christmas is in the offing?), I would give her one of these.

Their frames, aside from being stylish and of high quality are also thin and light, with anti-scratch coating, full UV protection, and on top of all, fully guaranteed. Oh fully guaranteed? Yeah, all of their eyeglasses, even their $8-priced one. This is interesting, as it’s too good to be true.

However, there’s a confirmation here in an article in the Chicago Tribune (chicagotribune.com, November 15, 2008) about the price ranges of eyeglasses being an eye-opener, as they can vary so much! “But no matter why you’re buying a pair of specs, you’re probably overpaying”, as the article says. An explanation here is: the price can go much lower down especially if the company selling is also the manufacturer, for then we really could have a real big bargain, as there are no middlemen in between. The profit that is supposed to go to them is then appropriated to the customers themselves, making the eyeglasses very low-priced. And who would not welcome this?

A shopping lesson therefore is go around first, comparing prices as you compare frame styles, before you decide to purchase a pair of specs.

As a background of our family, this post will shed light.

Yesterday was a pleasant happy surprise, and we are so very thankful! The family had been praying for our cute (Daisy, the youngest of the brood) to join in the reunion (which was not earlier planned) come Christmas, as the four, together with their families – even far-away Finland bunch – will be coming, and all have already plane tickets, save for the Prague bunch. At least that was the status up to yesterday.

They, the family, were here for a vacation last March yet, Daisy staying up to May; then we parents went back to Prague with her and the baby (the daddy for reasons of work had to be back earlier). So this was quite an expense, a Philippines-to-Europe trip, mind you! So there’s no way they could be back, or so we thought, that’s why we had to ask the Lord for His blessings for them, so they could come! Plus: they really had no plans to be back this soon!* Ahhh so, “man proposes, God disposes”. If it’s God Who says “Go”, He provides, in ways we know not! Praise the Lord! Thank You Lord!

But what’s the surprise? The prayer was for the Prague bunch to be able to come, as they were the only ones with no ticket, BUT the Lord’s more-than-enough grant? They are flying in next week!!! The first to arrive, though the last to have plane tickets, and in a peak season, purchased only a few days before flight! Yehey! Isn’t this G – R – E – A – T???

We still continue with our prayers, but this time, a thanksgiving, and for a safe and pleasant trip (she’ll be traveling alone with baby Caity, only the two of them, no help! Ahhh but there is God to send her angels, do you believe? Of course, they will be in the form of humans! )

*It’s only that she could not let herself miss the togetherness; AND, she’s supported by her ever-loving hubby! We thank God for him!

It’s now a few days past the celebration of the famous Masskara Festival here* in Bacolod City, the City of Smiles, yet I have not posted anything about it, haven’t even greeted here the people of Bacolod on the occasion of their happy event *sigh*. Is this how busy I am? Sadly, I could say, yes! We (the family) had not even been out to witness any of its merry makings. If we had gone downtown to go to SM Mall (we have it in Bacolod), it was to buy something, and even had to dine out, but that was all. Our driver, the daddy, just skipped the busy streets to avoid traffic. Even as we resolved we would be back to take pictures (and of course to share them in our blogs), the festival ended with no fulfillment of our plan.

You know why? October 11 was our community parish chapter anniversary. And now, I’m so very engrossed with the preparation of a coming very big and important community affair of the Negros Occidental chapter, and have a committee to handle. Another thing, the Masskara festivity almost jibed with the culmination (last week of the year long celebration) of the Diamond Jubilee of the Bacolod Diocese (about which I have not even also written!) Anyway, I wish I could find time for this latter topic, but to be found in my other site, the great ordinary happenings (oh oh I’ve not updated this also ). I’m making the best of my time, though.

For more info about the Masskara Festival, you can visit this site.

*Talisay, our city, is just about 6 kms. from Bacolod, and could very well belong to “Metro-Bacolod”.

As a sequel to my previous post:

October has been designated National Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month (at least, in the United States), thus making the topic relevant. But this SCA is a very expansive medical subject, and I intend not to discuss this from a medical point of view (where I have nil knowledge of) but this is just an attempt to give light about these medical terms, from a lay (re: the medical world) person learning through reliable sites. I focus mainly on the difference between heart failure and heart attack, as I must confess here, up to when I read about these, which I share here (sorry folks but my background is civil/structural engineering!), they were very hazy for me. Now, at least, I know the difference.

Sudden cardiac arrest (or sudden cardiac death) may start with heart failure, a heart attack or any of the other heart diseases (some: coronary artery disease, heart block, heart valve disease).

Heart failure does not mean that the heart stops functioning abruptly. It is a process wherein the function of the heart becomes abnormal: it is unable to contract or relax properly, heart rhythm is abnormal, or there is lack of coordination in its function. Its ability to pump blood lessens, and the lower chambers of the heart (the ventricles) do not beat efficiently like when it’s healthy. The body tries to compensate this by enlarging the heart so that more blood can be pumped, however if not treated right away, this may result to complications. Common of these are high blood pressure and diabetes. For treatment, this may need changes in lifestyle, diet, and medication. Device therapy is also one approach.

Heart failure afflicts 4-5 million of people in the United States, half of this over 65 years old.

On the other hand: “A heart attack, also called a myocardial infarction (MI), refers to a sudden event in which a portion of the heart stops working because it no longer receives blood.

Heart attack symptoms can include chest pain (angina), cold sweats, discomfort in the arms, back, neck, stomach or jaw, vomiting and lightheadedness. For some people these symptoms do not occur.”

Medicines may be able to treat a heart attack but if none of these are effective, heart surgeons resort to either angioplasty or coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), simply known to us as heart bypass.

As a person with not much background in, or relation with, medicine (aside from that my father was a registered nurse!), I’m the first one to learn from the little research I’ve done. Dabbling with the internet is surely educational, and I thank God for this.

I have enjoyed my blogging, though I consider myself blessed with a techie brood (my techie son and daughters!) who do the techie stuff for me like webhosting. However, there are many of my friends who are looking for this kind of service, as they are now aware of the benefits of the internet to business and finance.

With this comes the need for web hosting services to cater to this clientele. They want to compare services offered and the pricing of web hosting. I have known of a website which has a webhosting blog for them to visit. This site rates different web hosting providers, giving their services and pricing in their independent reviews. They also give the top ten web hosting providers, which makes it easy for one to compare the services of each, or whatever related matters they want.

For those who are then planning to get a web hosting provider, it is advantageous for them to take this opportunity given by this blog, which contains many information that they may need in their venture into internet marketing. I myself was impressed for in the tabulation of providers, aside from their usual features like space/ traffic unlimited and the corresponding price, they also offer bonus features such as free domain name, free domain forever, etc. and independent hosting reviews. With this, one is guided as to his selection; it’s up for him to decide.

It’s now a little more than two months since the demise of a very close family friend, a compadre (godfather of one of our sons), and co-officer/co-worker during our good old days in the parish Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement, a very good and loving hubby to his wife and father to his five children, who succumbed to a merciless heart attack. I’ve deferred writing about this sad event to avoid the pain of the sudden loss.

But today, I called up his widow, my dear comadre, mads Bebing, just to say “hello” and to convey my love and concern to her, especially as she must still be hurting by this time. (And surely, she was in tears in some parts of our conversation though I’d try to veer her away from being sad). I just want to cheer her up, to divert her from reminiscing. I’m thankful the couple has been very close to the Lord, and she gets her strength from Him, makes it easier for her to console herself. I reminded her of that vacation in Palawan where the family of one of their sons is, asking her when she will be ready to go for it. Could we have it when our brood (yeah, the whole bunch!) would be here for a vacation and reunion on December (God willing)?

This post is therefore dedicated to our beloved friend, the late pare Bon, who was also a lay minister of the Holy Eucharist, and an officer of the Adoracion Nocturna, a Catholic lay organization. He was always ready to do whatever community task there was at hand – very reliable, responsible, good-hearted, and a very dear and thoughtful friend. As I write this, I couldn’t help my tears, though I didn’t expect this anymore by now. Well, that’s how close we have been.

This sudden death has prompted me to research about this traitor of a disease. Heart attack? Or heart failure? Which is which? What’s the difference anyway? I’ve learned some substantial knowledge about the subject for us lay persons (as far as medical topics are concerned) who are not doctors of medicine, which I’d like to share with you in a later post. That’s life, we learn, and still will learn, as we go along the way.
